![]() ![]() This cheat sheet explores important new capabilities as well as requirements for the new operating system named macOS Ventura. The line wouldn't allow me to type anything and I am the admin and only user of the iMac.The new macOS, version 13 of the operating system announced by Apple at WWDC 2022, introduces many new features and innovations. I saw someone else suggest running a code in Terminal (sudo softwareupdate -reset-ignored) but then it asked for a password. however (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) the coding of them changed with Catalina so I can't restore them from Sierra (10.12.6). My iMac was backed up just before the update ran, so my files are sitting on my Time Machine. The Support pages on Apple that have the various versions for download do not have the initial 10.14. Mojave or Catalina will download but when I run the install, they both say that 10.14 or 10.15 are required respectfully. But I can't get any 10.14 nor 10.15 to install. I've managed to get it to install 10.12.6. I reset the macOS to the recommended version (in my case it turned out to be 10.8). But my machine wouldn't come back on line. I was wondering if it might be a certificate date issue where Catalina or Monterey OS on the Apple servers is looking for a newer iMac but Apple says it should work.Ĭatalina update 10.15.6 failed now can't get any 10.15 to install Quick background: Had 10.15.5 on my iMac and ran the. I've read articles about this and did in fact try going the Safe Boot route but to no avail. Since Apple states his iMac is compatible with Monterey, why won't it complete the update? ![]() I need to load a more recent OS since Safari no longer has compatibility with many of the financial websites he uses and High Sierra no longer gets security updates. I finally gave up and reinstalled High Sierra via his backup drive. ![]() There is no indication at this point if anything is happening or not I did this with Catalina too, got the same results. Pressed the power button to restart it and got the black screen with the install progress bar and said it had about 26 minutes to go so I let it go but the same thing happened when it got to the end of the progress bar. It stayed at less than a minute to complete for a good 30-40 minutes until I finally shut down via the power button on the back of the iMac Got the typical install screen and progress bar and let it run.takes around a half hour or more as the progress bar moves to the right to the end of its travel and then sits there with less than a minute to complete Ran Disk Utility to verify there were no issues with the internal hard driveįound a link to Monterey on the Apple App Store (you can no longer find it by searching the App Store, it appears they have taken it down but you can find a link directly to it)ĭownloaded the install Monterey app, it was something like 45gig if I recall I updated my wife's mid 2015 MBP to Monterey without any issues so thought I'd do the same for my uncle. When that failed, I tried Catalina but met with the same fate. Update Hangs: Late 2015 21.5" iMac from High Sierra to Catalina or Monterey I'm trying to update my uncles 21.5" late 2015 iMac from High Sierra to Monterey which is supposed to be the last OS it will work with. However, version 10.4.10 and all versions of 10.6 will work in macOS 13. One odd note about Ventura and FCP, version 10.5.4 will NOT run in the system and will produce a damaged file error on launch.
